Black Sheep Gifts opened in May 2010. After moving to the Irvington neighborhood in 2000, owner Lisa Bennett said it was hard to find a good greeting card. Following the death of her father, Frank, she decided to invest his life insurance money and become an entrepreneur.
Where did the name come from?
The business name is registered with the state as Thanks, Frank LLC as a tribute to her father. Lisa was known as the black sheep of her family, but on her father's side, there are only black sheep with a few grey in the herd. Hence the name Black Sheep Gifts.
"This is not only one of my Irvington faves, it is one of my overall favorite gifts shops ever! I go in occasionally just to browse and almost always walk out with something for myself or a gift for someone. The shop is well organized, easy to browse, clean, and they're constantly getting new products. The owners are very nice and make you always feel welcome. I also respect and admire how much they are involved in and support the Irvington community.
There are items for all ages and all price ranges, from practical to decorative to just plain fun!"
